Shakespeare at the Green

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I arrive?

For best seating, arrive at least 30 minutes before curtain, and bring a blanket or lawn chair.  Blankets are allowed closest to performance areas.  Lawn chairs are allowed at the edges of The Green (so as not to block site lines). Seating on steps and walls around the outskirts of the playing area is permissible.

Where is The Green located?
The Green is located across from the Convention Center in Uptown Charlotte. Its street address is 401 S. Tryon Street (between 1st Street and Martin Luther King Drive ). Entrance is from either College Street or Tryon Street .

Where do I park?

The closest parking is at The Green parking garage (located underneath The Green with entrances on College and Tryon) and in the Three Wachovia parking deck next to The Green (entrance on College).

What should I bring?

Shakespeare at The Green is a lovely way for family and friends to enjoy live theatre together.  Most people prefer to bring their own blankets or lawn chairs along with a picnic to enjoy during the show.  There will also be cold drinks, beer, wine and food available to purchase from restaurants located at The Green. Since temperatures are unpredictable, a sweater can be handy if the weather cools after sunset. In order to preserve site lines for all audience members, umbrellas or tents are not allowed at The Green.

How much does it cost to see the show?

Thanks to the generous support of our audience and other members of the community the Collaborative Arts presents its Shakespeare at The Green productions FREE to the public.  As you can imagine, these professional shows are expensive to produce, so all donations are greatly appreciated. Members of the company will circulate amongst the audience at the end of each show collecting audience donations.

What about rain?

Summer weather in Charlotte can be quite unpredictable, often with late afternoon rain. However, showers can be brief and we will not cancel a show on account of rain until the last possible minute.  Our stage manager will make the decision to cancel a show when she sees that the weather threatens the safety of our audience, cast, or crew.  A lined picnic blanket or a lawn chair is recommended for shows following a rain shower.

What if I need assistance with seating, parking or have other special needs?

Shakespeare at The Green is committed to making all of its productions accessible to everyone in the community.  Reserved parking and seating is available for audience members in wheelchairs.  Please call us ahead of time or see our Stage Manager fhe night of the show for help with these or other special needs you may have.

Are there restrooms at The Green?
Yes, public restrooms are located on both sides of The Green (downstairs under the Ratcliffe condominiums and also between Jolina's and Fuel Pizza).
